Useful Keys & Buttons

Each window and data screen contains buttons and/or keys which perform the same function on each window. Many of you will be familiar with these buttons and their functions as they are common in Windows programs. For your reference, here is a description of how these buttons work.

OKSaves data. New or changed data becomes permanent.  
 
CANCELRestores all data in the record to before last save. If this is a new record and has not been previously saved, all data is erased.  

INSERTUse to add a new record to a file.  

HELP-F1Use to invoke help if available.  

CHANGE Select/highlight the record you wish to change first, then click the CHANGE Button. Make your changes and save the new data.  
   
DELETEHighlight the record you wish to delete, and then click the DELETE Button. You will have an opportunity to cancel the request. Once the deletion is confirmed, the record will be erased. CAUTION: There is no restore or undo after the record has been deleted. It will be gone.  
   
CLOSEExits the File.  
   
REPEAT KEY  
CTRL-H   Repeats or duplicates data from previous field on a new record from last saved record. May be called the ditto key or repeat history key.  
 


Video Buttons (Optional Feature)

Video buttons may be available as you add records to a data file. If you have this option, you may find it easier to use the video buttons. If they are available (and they are not available on all files), the video buttons will be located below the top main menu. As the cursor passes over each arrow or arrow combination, a help tip will be displayed explaining each arrow's function. The buttons allow you to move more quickly through a data file. This is particularly helpful in larger files.

The arrow functions from left to right are:
·Go to the First Page  
·Go to the Prior Page  
·Go to the Prior Record  
·Locate record  
·Go to the Next Record  
·Go to the Next Page  
·Go to the Last Page  
·Select This Record  
·Insert a New Record  
·Edit This Record  
·Delete This Record  
·Previous value  
·Get Help
